After good ideas for a bike to restore or rebuild that has a good community & readily available parts?
Long story short, came to bikes later in life.
Neighbour had a 2006 GPX 250 rotting in his garden hedge (AKA the Kawasaki Ninja before it was called a Ninja) that he said I could have for a six pack, which I did.
Spent 2 years restoring/ rebuilding it via workshop manuals and YouTube. Got my Ls and learned the basics.
It was a decent project though some parts were quite hard to find as the GPX was superceded by 1 or 2 further generations of Ninja which eclipsed it in terms of spares availability and just general public exposure.
Now I'd like to tackle my first 'big' bike. I'd like to restore or rebuild something 1975-2000 or thereabouts, that has a large following and easy availability of spares here in Australia.
What sort of bike would I like? I'm not sure. Maybe a 90s 600-1000 Jap bike, or a 70s British tourer. You tell me.
Some points to remember: by no means am I a qualified mechanic or an experienced rider. Hence I rely heavily on YouTube and I'm specifically after a bike with a big following/ lots of spares.
I'm not going to build and ride my next bike overnight, so comments like 'you're a novice and so you'll be dead in a week if you ride a 90s Jap sports bike,' might be justified, but not really relevant. I'll be riding the GPX for a while yet and any project will likely be years in the making.
Suggestions welcome. Cheers!
