My boyfriend left me because of family pressure and I feel completely lost
I don’t really know why I’m posting this. I just feel lost and need to share my situation.
I was in a relationship with someone I cared about deeply. He is a young adult who has been under a lot of pressure from his family for a long time.
From what I experienced, he had very little freedom in his decisions and often felt unable to say no to his family. Over time, this pressure affected his mental health and made him feel more and more hopeless.
We were in a relationship mostly online and in private because he said his family was closely monitoring his communication. He also told me he wanted to continue his education and build his own life, but felt blocked by family pressure and the fear of being forced to return to another country.
I supported him as much as I could and encouraged him to seek help. He eventually contacted services, but before anything really improved, the pressure increased again.
Recently, he told me he had no choice but to end our relationship. He said it was not what he wanted, but that he felt forced into it by his situation.
Now I feel heartbroken and confused. Part of me understands the pressure he was under, but another part of me feels hurt and like I was left behind after trying to support him.
I don’t know how to process this or what to think anymore.
Has anyone been through something similar? How did you cope?
