STALKER 2 Cost of Hope: The More I Analyse This Trailer, The Bigger The DLC Looks

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

I've spent the last few days going through the Cost of Hope trailer frame-by-frame, comparing it with the Interactive Almanac, previous trailers, Patch 1.9 content and various community discoveries.

Here's everything I found.

Iron Forest Might Be The Real Mystery

Most people immediately focused on Limansk and the CNPP, but Iron Forest keeps standing out the more I look at it.

The region appears to contain:

  • New electrical anomaly types
  • Electrical fog
  • Aggressive power-line anomalies
  • Multiple antenna structures that resemble Brain Scorcher infrastructure

One theory gaining traction is that these antennas may have acted as relay stations, extending the Brain Scorcher's influence further into the Zone.

Nothing confirms this yet, but it would explain how the Scorcher affected such a large area and would connect surprisingly well with the Patch 1.9 storyline.

At the very least, Iron Forest appears to be much more than another open-world region.

Limansk Looks Completely Different To What I Expected

The trailer repeatedly shows:

  • Upside-down rooms
  • Floating objects
  • Distorted architecture
  • Reality-warping effects

What's interesting is that the Almanac describes Limansk as effectively being consumed by a spatial anomaly.

If that's still accurate, Limansk may not function like a traditional STALKER location at all.

Instead of simply exploring a ruined city, we may be exploring an anomaly-created version of one.

Duty vs Freedom Looks Like The Core Story

Officially, we know the D4 Treaty is collapsing.

The trailer shows Mavka and Zulu working together early on, despite representing opposing sides in the conflict.

Previous information and community discoveries suggest players may be forced to make multiple choices involving both characters throughout the expansion.

If that's true, Duty versus Freedom isn't just background world-building this time.

It may actually be the central narrative pillar of the entire DLC.

Suslov Might Be Returning

This could be one of the biggest lore reveals hidden in the trailer.

Several scenes strongly suggest Suslov appears during the story.

For newer players, Suslov wasn't just another trader.

He had connections to Clear Sky and deeper knowledge of the Zone than most characters.

If he really is returning, that could create a direct link between the original trilogy, Clear Sky, and STALKER 2's future expansions.

One correction worth mentioning: some of the voice actor evidence used in early breakdowns appears to have been mistaken, but the Suslov theory itself remains very much alive.

Roosevelt May Also Return

This is a detail I haven't seen many people talking about.

Some viewers believe one of the Duty soldiers shown alongside Zulu is Roosevelt.

If true, that would suggest GSC is continuing stories and acknowledging previous events rather than treating everything as isolated content.

It's a small detail, but potentially very interesting.

Bolshak / Chief Is Back

Another detail that surprised me.

The character originally shown in the famous 2021 gameplay reveal appears to have returned.

Many people assumed a lot of those early concepts had been abandoned.

Apparently not.

He now seems to play some kind of guide or information broker role within the story.

The CNPP Looks Extremely Important

The trailer repeatedly returns to:

  • The ruined generators
  • New anomaly activity
  • Duty operations
  • Zulu-led forces
  • Areas surrounding the power plant

This doesn't feel like background scenery.

The CNPP increasingly looks like a major focal point of the expansion.

The New Anomaly Might Be The Signature Feature Of The DLC

One anomaly keeps appearing.

We've now seen versions of it:

  • In the trailer
  • In promotional material
  • In the Interactive Almanac
  • On STALKER-themed product marketing

That tells me GSC wants players paying attention to it.

Visually, it looks more like a rupture in reality than a traditional anomaly.

Whatever it is, it appears to be one of the centrepieces of Cost of Hope.

There Might Be More Laboratory Content Than Anyone Expected

This might actually be the biggest surprise.

The trailer repeatedly hints at:

  • X-16
  • X-18
  • X-19
  • Potentially even a completely new X-12 facility

There are also references to X-19 Section C, which naturally raises questions about whether Sections A and B exist as well.

For anyone who loved the laboratory sections of the original trilogy, this could end up being a huge part of the DLC.

The Cadaver Continues To Look Important

The Cadaver appears throughout the trailer.

Not once.

Repeatedly.

What stands out:

  • Unique animations
  • Significant screen time
  • Story focus
  • Laboratory connections

New Equipment And Gameplay Details

A few smaller details that are easy to miss:

  • Possible glowsticks appear in laboratory footage
  • Mavka appears to use a unique HK G3 variant
  • Later footage may show Skif carrying the same weapon
  • New weapon optics can be seen
  • Bloodsuckers appear to have new animations
  • Bloodsucker invisibility effects appear updated

Small details individually.

Interesting when combined.

Graphics, Engine Update & Performance

A lot of discussion has focused on graphics.

Personally, I don't see evidence of a massive visual leap.

What I do see:

  • Better reflections
  • Improved material quality
  • Stronger lighting consistency
  • Excellent environmental detail in some locations

What I still see:

  • LOD issues
  • Vegetation problems
  • Some rough-looking distant assets

My guess is that the bigger gains from the engine update will be in performance, stability, and rendering improvements rather than a complete graphical overhaul.

Things The Community Has Already Corrected

A few observations from early breakdowns appear to be wrong:

  • Zulu's weapon is likely a Saiga rather than an AK
  • Suit scuffs appear to have existed since launch
  • Some weapon identifications remain disputed (SKS vs SVT-40)

Worth mentioning because it's easy for these things to become accepted as fact.

My Biggest Takeaway

The more I analyse this trailer, the more Cost of Hope looks like GSC revisiting almost every major pillar of STALKER at once.

We're potentially getting:

  • Iron Forest
  • Limansk
  • CNPP
  • Multiple laboratories
  • Duty storyline
  • Freedom storyline
  • Mavka
  • Zulu
  • Suslov
  • New anomalies
  • New mutant encounters
  • Legacy characters returning

For something many people originally assumed would be a relatively straightforward story DLC, that's an enormous amount of content.

What details have I missed?
