What a disgrace to my favorite childhood franchise

What a disgrace for my favorite childhood franchise.

Don't get me wrong, the gunplay was the most fun in the entire series. Features like spawning a vehicle with a single button felt like a fresh new pathway for the Borderlands franchise.

However, the new Gearbox team sadly didn't reinvent the wheel—they pretty much broke it. It all feels like a push for fast profits at the cost of the fans' respect for the title.

The game's concept—pure gameplay with millions of weapon combinations but a 1/10 storyline—makes it feel as though the new team generated the plot using ChatGPT, completely destroying the authentic Borderlands adventure.

The developers truly stripped Borderlands of its core. There aren't many legacy Vault Hunters in the main story (unless you pay for the DLCs), there is no classic "Catch-a-Ride" feeling, barely any Pandora, and a complete lack of that signature dark, cringe humor. We no longer see unstable or chaotic characters like Brick, Tina, or Krieg in the spotlight (at least not in the main story). Hell, even Claptrap's personality and humor feel completely flat.

It feels like Borderlands sold its soul for bigger profits by forcing itself to become a woke game.

Even the developers' responses on Steam platform look like corporate rage-bait, showing a complete disregard for the fans' opinions or feelings.

I understand that corporate greed is mainstream now, but don't do it like this, Gearbox, because I truly love you.

SPOILER ALERT

In the end, I hope that if they reset or restart the universe in the next game, they somehow find a way to go back in time and save Roland from dying or resurrect him. I have always felt that his absence left a massive void in the franchise.

I recommend this game if you are a new player looking for hyped-up gameplay, but definitely not if you are a Day 1 veteran.
