After a few days of testing, I've decided to return my Fitbit Air

Discussion

Overall, I think it's a very nice product. It's lightweight, comfortable, looks great, and I especially liked the sleep tracking.

For my personal use case, though, it ended up being a bit redundant.

I already use a Garmin Fenix for running and workouts, and I also wear an Amazfit Helio Strap for recovery and health metrics. Over several days I compared:

  • Sleep tracking
  • HRV
  • Resting heart rate
  • Breathing rate
  • SpO2
  • Step counting
  • Daily calorie estimates

What I found was that Fitbit Air generally reported lower HRV values than both Garmin and Helio, while calorie estimates were often significantly higher. Resting heart rate, breathing rate, and SpO2 were usually very similar across all devices.

The biggest strengths of the Fitbit Air for me were comfort, design, and sleep tracking. The biggest limitation was that it doesn't currently broadcast heart rate to my Garmin during workouts, while the Helio Strap integrates well with my existing setup.

So this wasn't really about one device being better than another. Fitbit Air is a good product. It just doesn't add enough value on top of the devices I already use.

Has anyone else here compared Fitbit Air with Garmin or Helio for a few days? What differences did you notice?
