I think I’ve been looking at LEGO profit the wrong way

I was talking with someone about how they track their LEGO investments, and they mentioned something that stuck with me.

Making $50 on a set after one year can actually be better than making $100 after four years, because you can sell, reinvest the money and repeat the process.

It sounds obvious when you say it like that, but I was mostly looking at the total profit until now. I wasn’t really paying enough attention to how long the money was locked into each set.

So now I’m wondering if annual ROI and holding time are actually more useful than just showing “you made $X on this set”.

How do you guys look at it? Do you track profit per year, or do you mostly care about the final profit?
