Is installing pre-hung door bad idea?
Hi all,
We have a 1990 house. We are… I’m not sure if moderate DIY people is correct but not sure if beginner is correct either. I’ve included what we’ve done below.
I’m not sure if we should hire someone to put in a door or if we could handle doing it ourselves. I’ve done enough DIY to know how things can go wrong, and I don’t want to have to board up our front door for a week while we wait for professionals to come out because we bit off more than we can chew. With the list of things we have done below (which are all pretty beginner friendly) would you say a pre-hung door is something we can handle, or something best left to professionals?
I’ve done the googling, read the other threads, but still not sure.
Thanks all!
Things we’ve done that look nice and have held up:
- replacing floors
- replacing all kitchen cupboards
- trim
- installing closet systems (including cutting down to correct size)
- replacing toilets
- replacing lights
- hanging drywall
- creating a bathroom closet including closet opening in wall
- replacing deck boards (not built whole deck)
- building a standup fence to block a gate we can’t lock due to utilities. Couldn’t safely attach it to the fence due to age, so it’s stand alone to keep dogs in the yard when utility companies don’t bother closing the gate. This is square and has no structural issues and looks pretty nice (from my biased perspective)
Things that have intimidated me enough to hire a professional:
- plumbing
- any major electrical (I haven’t hired an electrician, but I will if needed).
- windows
