Take Over Gas Station

I'm trying to take over the gas station in the story mode. I have a toolbox and 5 units of wood. However, I only have found a small backpack, that won't fit all 5. And it seems that it won't pull from the gas station inventory.

So do I need to get a bigger backpack, or what?
