I found this 1950s Eterna-matic Challenger in a family members home that passed recently. I'll be adding a new brown leather strap and I am thinking this will be my daily wear to the office. It seems to be running fine.

It's my first watch that isnt a Timex Expedition and though im not big on gold, it's really growing on me. From what I've read Eterna movements are great and im excited about it being a non-quartz watch. Feeling a little nostalgia for a time I never got to experience.

The engraving on the back makes it seem like it was given to an employee of Birks on retirement, though the name does not match anyone in my own family.

We're these watches considered pretty decent back in the day being a Swiss movement and all? I'm new to watches and plan on keeping this but would something like this be considered desireable? (it is to me).

I understand that some we're gold, gold filled or gold plated. Is there anyway to tell? Stamp somewhere im guessing?

Is the red second hand original?

Should I be taking it to be serviced?

All your comments and thoughts are appreciated.

Cheers.
