How do you go about looking for work in other states?

Unemployment

Been newly unemployed for about 6 months. This is already the second time in my life I’ve been unemployed at the age of 26 lol.

First finally I worked for straight out of colleges. Got laid off in January 2025. Found another similar position from June to December at which point they terminated my 6 month contract (was told there was a high possibility I’d be hired on as a perm). So now I’m back unemployed. I worked retail since January but now even that company is cutting hours so I’ve applied for partial unemployment.

Been using the extra time to apply for more jobs and today it just hit me that maybe I should start looking out of state. I don’t have a huge amount of money but I’m severely limiting myself by trying to stay in the same city because it’s where home is.

I’m just not sure how to start. Look up companies? Cost of living? I have a degree in engineering so I’m fairly sure once I do land something the pay will be alright. But u don’t know where to begin. Has anyone been in a similar situation and how did you kick off into it?
