Hello all, today marks my first-ever post on this sub, and to mark the occasion, I decided to make a tier list of moral/philosophical complexity.

**Rules**

For the purposes of this tier list, moral complexity refers to how nuanced, developed, and internally consistent a character's worldview, moral code, philosophy, or ideology is, as well as how those beliefs evolve over time and interact with the world around them. This is not a ranking of overall writing quality, character complexity, or moral virtue.

**S Tier**

This tier denotes characters who possess extremely well-developed and multi-dimensional worldviews or moral philosophies. Their beliefs are often challenged, refined, or transformed over the course of the narrative, and their philosophies play a major role in shaping both their actions and the themes of their stories.

Characters:

* Dr. Tenma (Monster)
* Thorfinn (Vinland Saga)
* Miyamoto Musashi (Vagabond)
* Paul Atreides (Dune)
* Eren Yeager (Attack on Titan)
* Fang Yuan (Reverend Insanity)

**A Tier**

This tier denotes characters who possess complex and dynamic moral frameworks but whose philosophies are not explored to the same depth as those found in S Tier. Their beliefs still meaningfully influence their actions and character development throughout their stories.

Characters:

* Yuji Itadori (Jujutsu Kaisen)
* Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece)
* Dexter Morgan (Dexter)
* Guts (Berserk)
* Johnny Joestar (Steel Ball Run)

**B Tier**

This tier denotes characters who possess comparatively straightforward moral philosophies but are nonetheless interesting, compelling, and well-written characters. While their worldviews may be less nuanced than those found in higher tiers, their values still play an important role in their stories.

Characters:

* Mark Grayson (Invincible)
* Anton Chigurh (No Country for Old Men)
* Tanjiro Kamado (Demon Slayer)

**C Tier** (This is going to ruffle some feathers)

This tier denotes characters with relatively static or simplistic worldviews.

The only character in this tier is Light Yagami (Death Note).

While I believe Light is a very well-written character, you cannot convince me that he is anything more than a mentally unstable teenager on the world's largest power trip. As the series progresses, he becomes increasingly convinced of his own misguided righteousness. In my view, he fundamentally lacks a coherent moral framework and instead follows whatever best feeds his ever-growing god complex.

**D Tier**

The sole resident of this tier is Sung Jin-Woo (Solo Leveling).

My reasoning is simple: he is a humble aura farmer. Nothing more, nothing less.

This concludes my tier list. Keep in mind that everything here is ultimately subjective and reflects my personal interpretation of these characters and their philosophies.
