Small Claims Court

It's exactly as the title says. I need advice on this, PLEASE, because I have never been to court. A debt collector is suing for under 5k dollars. They tried to tell me twice on the phone that a court date was set up, but I didn't get the time and the place. On the second call, I made payment arrangements and asked if I still had to go to court. They said they wouldn't be able to stop it in time and get all the information over to me. I was also around on some of the other Reddit posts for legal advice, and checking from what checking I did from the other post said, they didn't serve me, and a Non-Service Return was E-filed with the court. I never received a summons. Even with that, would I still need to go? Oh, and this is in Florida if that helps.
