Advice on Rescued juvenile magpie avoidant behaviour

Question

I rescued a european magpie fledgeling around a month ago (it was found on the ground attacked by a stray cat but he wasn't injured). I have no prior experience with corvids and I've been struggling with trust building and bonding. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and how to do better.

It eats properly and is active and curious. it approaches me when I'm occupied and interacts with me when I'm working (calling, tugging at my clothes, perching on my shoulder). However avoids me when I actively focus on it or approach it directly.

I don't try to carry him around unless I absolutely have to, and he resists strongly when I do.

My main questions are:

Is this avoidant behaviour normal in juvenile european magpies or should I be concerned?

How can I approach bonding without causing stress or enforcing its avoidant behaviour?

Any advice from people experienced with corvids would be really appreciated.
