I built a privacy-first PWA for tracking your emergency supplies (PrepTrack) - Works offline, barcode scanner, expiration alerts

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a project that solves a problem many of us face: keeping track of emergency supplies, food storage, and knowing what's expiring before it's too late.

The Problem

Most people store supplies and forget about them. When disaster strikes (or you just need something), you realize half your stuff expired months ago. Existing solutions either:

- Cost money πŸ’Έ

- Store your data in the cloud (privacy concerns) πŸ”’

- Don't work offline πŸ“΅

- Are clunky mobile apps

### What I Built: PrepTrack

A Progressive Web App (PWA) that works completely offline and keeps all your data on YOUR device.

Key Features:

- πŸ“± Barcode Scanner - Scan items directly with your camera

- πŸ”” Smart Alerts - Get notified X days before expiration

- 🌐 Works 100% Offline - No internet required after installation

- πŸ”’ Privacy First - All data stored locally via IndexedDB

- πŸ“Š Dashboard - Visual overview of your supplies

- πŸ’Ύ Backup/Export - JSON + CSV export for your data

- 🌍 6 Languages - DE, EN, PT, AR, IT, FR

- πŸŒ™ Dark Mode - Because we all love dark mode

- πŸ“¦ LAN Sync - Optional sync between devices on same network

Tech Stack (for the devs)

- React 18 + TypeScript

- Vite 6 (blazing fast build)

- Tailwind CSS 3

- Zustand (state management)

- Dexie.js (IndexedDB wrapper)

- Workbox (service worker + caching)

- Tesseract.js (OCR for expiration dates)

- @zxing/browser (barcode scanning)

PWA Features:

- Installable on mobile & desktop

- Offline-first architecture

- Background sync ready

- Push notifications (local)

- Scored 92/100 on PWA audit

Why I'm Sharing This

I built this because I needed it myself. Now it's open source and free for anyone who wants it.

What I'm Looking For

- Feedback on the UI/UX

- Feature suggestions

- Bug reports

- Translations (currently 6 languages, more welcome!)

TL;DR

Built a free, open-source PWA for tracking emergency supplies. Works offline, scans barcodes, alerts before expiration. All data stays on your device.
