Found the Right Sub! Here are my First Two Pieces Done in Soft Pastel.
First, I want to the all the art communities I have been posting in lately, especially r/OilPastels for pointing out I posted in the wrong medium and STILL provided feedback and advice.
Anyways, I’ve had a set of 48 Mungyo pastels for years and had been too intimidated to use them. My wife finally convinced me that I should start learning by starting with a few simple still life’s. The apple was my first piece, I was pretty happy with how the shadow turned out and my wife taught me a lot about building up colours on the apple. The Lemon was my second project, I got inspired by watching Alain Picard’s tutorial, but applied a lot of my own learning from my first painting as well. My wife told me I made a lot of “bold choices” with my lemon and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
I want to say that for their price point the Mungyo pastels are fantastic to work with. My wife had a far more expensive set of Contè á Paris pastels and I honestly didn’t enjoy using them as much and found it took a lot more effort to get colours down.
Any feedback would be welcome, along with other tutorials that might help me improve.
