Gothic remake and merchants

I cant play the game because of poor setup. But I plan to upgrade it. The question I have. Do I need to be careful with spending resources or is it like in original gothic, where I can just beat any merchant basically without any issues (sometimes I do get attack by nearby guards, but I can beat them too or just run and they will be okey with me next time they see me.) Or is it more like in gothic 2 with permanent agrro of all nearby people and fines? I mean, it makes sense, we are in prison afterall. But, it made the game kinda easy with me running around with 300 + of any kind of healing potion and unlimited ore. Or is the combat tougher so even NPC merchants cant be knocked down so easily?
