On Feeling Trapped And What Came After: it is greener than it used to be
For a long time, I thought the feeling of being trapped came from not having enough options.
I'm no longer convinced that's true.
Looking back, some of my most difficult decisions had less to do with the choices in front of me and more to do with the stories I was telling myself about those choices and how i thought around them.
What success meant.
What failure meant.
What counted as wasted potential.
What kinds of lives were worth wanting.
A younger version of me was very attached to some of those stories.
Reality turned out to be far more interesting.
These days, I spend my time doing research at one of the country's premier medical institutes, pursuing a non-clinical MD, collecting hobbies, following curiosities, and building a life that feels far more my own and way larger than I once thought possible.
Over the years, many juniors have reached out wanting to talk about careers.
A surprising number of those conversations end up somewhere else.
Fear.
Possibility.
Identity.
The strange assumptions we carry about our futures.
I've grown quite fond of those conversations.
So I'm making room for a few more.
If you're feeling stuck, uncertain, curious, at a crossroads, or simply want a space to think out loud with someone who's wrestled with similar questions and has an obsession over pointing out that there are no wrong answers, just not good enough questions.
One practical detail.
I dont like giving out-of-context advices in the comment section, cos simply i dont have magical superpowers to figure out your context, well, not yet ig. What I am offering on the table is 1:1 conversations
This has proven far more alarming to people who enjoy rigid systems than to the people I actually talk to.
We'll figure it out afterwards.
I'm curious. I hope you're too.
