DBZ Kakarot's Female Researcher

Discussion

So there is something that has been bothering me about DBZ Kakarot. Clearly the Female Researcher is meant to be Vomi, but what does this mean and why? The obvious first instinct is to assume she's just there to act as a reference to Dragon Ball Fighterz, but if it were just meant to be a tongue in cheek cameo, then why did they tie her to one of the skill unlock methods?

She also has this behavior where she shows up as a world NPC that has highlighted dialogue. She usually says something referencing a past event in the area. Usually that dialogue is deliberately vague as to why she wants to know, but she is generally in pursuit of powerful people to study. An exception to this is her showing up at the rubble of Gero's lab, where she doesn't even offer that much for her explanation.

So what gives? Is she supposed to suggest that Vomi is still alive during Z? Why? My biases make me want to say that she is meant to be canon, but her inclusion is just an example of Toriyama liking to leave options on the table so that if he has an idea he doesn't have to explain too hard.

That leads to my headcanon that she is Vomi, she defected from the RRA after Gevo's demise rather than becoming more obsessed like Gero. She faked her own death so that Commander Red wouldn't order for her to be executed. And she discovered a method for extending her lifespan and youth drastically. She's ultimately still a fairly amoral scientist, but one without the drive for world domination or revenge. My extra headcanon is that she is a biology expert, so her research laid the groundwork for Cell, while her absence is why Gero abandoned the Cell project to being a background project for his supercomputer.

So does that seem like I am on the right track? Is there even a right track to be had? Any other thoughts or evidence you have?
