Why aren't Lithium or lighter batteries in Normal cars yet?

With EV's basically hauling multi-tonne batteries and ubiquitous in consumer devices in the past 20 years I'm surprised with the push for efficiency that auto makers are still putting heavy lead-acid batteries in regular cars from factory. Anyone in the industry might know why?
