basically a visual AAC for meltdown states.

There are some different ways I can think of:

Low-tech:

​

Color cards or a wristband system (green = ok, yellow = overload, red = meltdown). You can swap them quickly without words.

​

A specific bracelet/necklace you only touch or flip to “signal mode” when you’re overloaded.

​

Even just holding up a small card that says “Can’t talk. Please stay.”

​

Wearable:

​

Smart jewelry like Ringly or light-up fidget necklaces, you can tap them and they flash a color.

​

A cheap LED badge or pendant (search “LED pendant necklace” or “festival necklace”), press once to light it up, no words needed.

​

A programmable button (like Flic Button or Amazon Dash Button hack) linked to your phone to flash a message or color screen.

Phone:

​

iPhone Shortcuts or Android widgets that, with one tap, display a big colored screen (red for meltdown, yellow for overload). Just hold it up.

​

Pre-set text shortcut: tap once, your partner gets a message: “Meltdown — don’t move, don’t talk, just stay.”
