SAS Amex Premium: Two agents confirmed 80k bonus, then changed it to 45k – what happened?
Has anyone seen anything like this with SAS Amex before?
Here’s the background:
I originally applied for a SAS Amex Premium card, which at the time came with a welcome bonus of 45,000 EuroBonus points.
Shortly afterwards I changed my mind and applied for the Elite card instead, which had a welcome bonus of 80,000 EuroBonus points.
The next day I contacted Amex and asked if I could keep the Elite card and still receive the Elite welcome bonus. They told me no, because I had applied for Premium first, meaning I would not be eligible for the Elite offer. Based on that, I cancelled the Elite application and kept the Premium card.
Now here’s where things get strange.
My Companion Ticket tracker currently shows a target of exactly 60,000 NOK. However, Amex customer service has confirmed that Companion Ticket on my Premium account requires 150,000 NOK in spending.
At the same time, I contacted Amex chat to confirm my welcome bonus.
The first agent told me that my account was eligible for 80,000 EuroBonus points after spending 90,000 NOK within 9 months. I asked several follow-up questions because I was surprised, and the agent continued to confirm the same information.
Later in the same chat, another agent took over. I asked again, multiple times, and was again told that I would receive 80,000 EuroBonus points after spending 90,000 NOK. I even asked whether this was what was registered on my Premium account, and the answer was yes.
Only after I kept digging and asking more questions did they go back, re-check the account, and tell me that the correct offer was actually 45,000 EuroBonus points after spending 60,000 NOK.
This leaves me with a few questions:
Has anyone seen a Companion Ticket tracker showing 60,000 NOK when the actual requirement is 150,000 NOK?
Has anyone experienced Amex mixing up offers after applying for multiple card products?
Does this sound like a simple customer service mistake, or some kind of system/account mix-up?
And honestly, part of me wonders whether there may originally have been some kind of system error in my favour that got corrected after I kept asking questions. I know that sounds paranoid, but the fact that two different agents repeatedly confirmed 80k/90k before later changing it to 45k/60k makes me wonder.
I’m not claiming Amex owes me 80,000 points. I’m just trying to understand what actually happened here, because the whole thing seems oddly specific.
