My bambu lab filament spool opened during printing inside AMS
Got the "AMS can't pull filament" notification mid-print today. Opened it up expecting a snapped strand or a clog — instead I found the spool itself had come apart. The two halves had unscrewed and the filament was a complete bird's nest inside.
The kicker: this was a fresh factory-sealed PETG-CF spool straight from the shop, not a refill I'd swapped onto an old core. So pretty sure this one wasn't on me.
Tried for a good while to salvage it, but with filament wedged in the gap between the halves there was no way to screw them back together. Ended up binning the whole spool.
My best guess is it wasn't tightened properly at the factory. From now on I'll make a habit of checking that both halves are firmly locked before loading any new spool.
Anyone else run into this? Curious if it's a known issue or just one bad spool.
