Advice needed.
Hey everyone!
I’m 29 years old and I’ve had three kidney stones throughout my life. The only thing that I can truly think of what caused that was diet and dehydration. My first one I had I remember I was drinking a lot of Gatorade and my diet wasn’t the best. My last two I remember I went through a huge biking phase and wasn’t really drinking any water, plus I was eating a lot of sodium.
I did the 24 hour urine test and it showed that my urine was high in calcium and sodium and low in citrate. I have consistently raised my water intake to 4 liters of water a day at a minimum and I’ve tried chlorthiladine as well as potassium citrate and my body didn’t react very well to either of those so I am currently unmedicated.
My question is, is the 4 liters of water a day enough for prevention? I do really try to limit my sodium and I avoid all oxalate foods (except for the occasional square of dark chocolate). The last time I did the 24 hour urine test, I failed it because I produced too much pee and the test was invalid! This made my doctor not too happy, but it’s got to count for something right? I’ve also had two CT scans, a KUB xray as well as multiple urinalysis since my last stones and everything has been clean!
Thank you for taking the time to read my rant and I’m sorry that this unfortunate condition exists!
