Not really on topic but i'm desperate

i've checked the multiMC subreddit but it doesnt seem very active. im wondering how i can change my default skin with a custom one, and i tried going to the skin folder where i have it but it's a png file and i cant do anything with it. am i supposed to download it in another format ?
