Is 80 percent depisit for a wash and style hair appointment normal or scam

So i have natural hair and hairstylists in my area are very rough with my hair pulling on it without much care its cheap but not worth it.

I found a natural hair centered salon i messaged them on WhatsApp and a wash and mini braids costs 12500.

Its a bit high for me but i keep my mini braids in for 3 weeks minimum so the spread out cost was manageable.

Now i ask if she takes a deposit since she is appointment based she asked for 10k upfront. I felt that was way too high and asked why it wasn't 30-50 percent like other stylists she just replied 75 percent i am not comfortable paying fully or at least close to it for a service.

Is this the new normal its been a while since i have been large salons.
