Small medial meniscus anterior horn tear (6×2 mm) – no pain after 1 week
Hi everyone,
I'm a 30-year-old active male and recently injured my knee while playing cricket.
An ultrasound showed a 6 × 2 mm tear in the anterior horn of the medial meniscus.
Unfortunately, my family doctor in Canada only ordered an ultrasound, and I haven't had an MRI.
It's now been about 1 week since the injury, and my symptoms have improved quite a bit:
Initial internal swelling was present but has significantly reduced with Naproxen/Diclofenac oral + Voltaten emugel and no inflammation now!
I have a full range of motion.
I can fully bend and straighten my knee.
No locking or giving way.
No pain with normal walking or daily activities.
I hear a painless clicking sound when fully straightening the knee.
I can do shadow batting/bowling movements without pain.
The only thing I haven't tried yet is jogging, sprinting, or actual cricket.
A few questions:
-
How significant is a 6 × 2 mm anterior horn medial meniscus tear? Is that considered small?
-
Has anyone had a similar tear and returned to sports without surgery?
-
At only 1 week post-injury, is it too early to worry about not being able to jog yet? I can literally jog, just afraid in-case I would alleviate.
Would you push for an MRI now, or continue conservative treatment and reassess in a few weeks?
I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with similar experiences, especially athletes or medical professionals.
Thanks! 🙏
