Big news for Michigan state park lovers! We are entering the final stretch of a historic $273 million investment from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). This unprecedented funding has allowed us to tackle a decades-long list of projects across state parks and trails, while also developing Flint’s brand-new state park – the very first in Genesee County.

To date, 100% of our 197 planned projects are either complete or actively underway, with 142 already finished and 55 on track to cross the finish line by the end of the year.

Here is a quick highlight of some massive upgrades completed since July 2025 that you can enjoy right now (info on all projects can be found in the comments):

Belle Isle Park (Wayne Co.): Historic Casino roof and accessibility upgrades.

Hoffmaster State Park (Muskegon Co.): Reopened Gillette Visitor Center with a new roof, updated HVAC, and beautiful exterior brick restoration.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park (Chippewa/Luce Co.): A spectacular new 1,100-foot, fully accessible boardwalk to the Upper Falls with panoramic views.

Fayette Historic State Park (Delta Co.): Structural upgrades to the historic townsite, plus accessible visitor center walkways and restrooms.

Waterloo Recreation Area (Jackson/Washtenaw Co.): Reopened Eddy Discovery Center with brand-new exhibits, plus playground and fishing pier updates.

...and MANY more.

Did you know? Roughly 97% of state parks funding is generated by user fees (like the Recreation Passport) and royalties. Just 3% comes from general tax dollars. This historic boost is making a massive difference for our public lands!
