Texas transplants- you’ve been summoned
Where are all of the Texas transplants? I moved back to Ohio from Texas 2yrs ago (grew up in OH, moved to TX after college and lived there all of my 20s) and although I definitely love some things about Ohio better than Texas, I deeply miss TX. Ohio has been great bc I’m closer to family, I can enjoy the outdoors more bc it’s not 110° for 9mos out of the year and I’m more centrally located so I can do more road trips. All of those things are great, but I’ve honestly had a difficult time adjusting to being back in Ohio. Living in Texas for most of my 20s, it was the only adult experience that I knew and I didn’t think being back in Ohio would be so difficult since I lived here all of my life until my 20s.
I miss the southern hospitality and the genuineness of the ppl in Tx. Many Midwesterns are snoppy, performative, and rude. I miss having no state taxes. I miss being able to safely drive 80-85mph on the highway and it being the norm. Columbus drivers are by far the worst drivers I’ve ever encountered. I miss the food scene and the cheap gas. I miss having easy access to buccees (I know we have one now and another otw, but I used to live 10mins from one). I miss the diversity in cultures. Most of all, I fucking miss HEB. I never thought I could miss a grocery store as much as I miss HEB. Hands down the best grocery store in the country. I know I could always move back, and I probably will in the future, but for now I’m living that midwestern life again. How are you all adjusting to being here? What are your pros/cons?
And before anyone says “just leave” or makes a smart comment, I don’t want to leave right now. I’m just venting and looking for other Texas transplants to get a feel for their experience here in Ohio.
