Turning lanes

Question

Ive seen this happen a lot recently but too many people are using the wrong lane to turn.
They will use the straight through instead of actually moving into the turning lane to turn off the one way.
Google maps in ms paint to explain what I mean, red line is what I'm seeing people do.

The green line is what you're meant to do, if anyone sees this that has been using the straight through :)
Is it just me seeing this absurd amount of poor situational awareness?
