Headlight and tailight options

Hey, I recently bought my 2017 SEL for my daily and I was thinking about doing some small things to it and one of those is cool aftermarket headlights/tailights. I was told my a friend to not do front lights because they can mess up the fog lights turning on when I turn the wheel and could throw a light on the dash. Im mainly a 90s JDM guy so I'm used to not much tech and relatively easy modding and I know this is a newer German car. Im really just looking for input on what options I can safely run if any and how that all works and how to replace them. Thanks
