I’m 28 years old, 182 lbs, and live a pretty healthy lifestyle. I lift weights, do cardio and calisthenics 5-6 days a week, eat a high-protein diet, and have lost about 20 pounds over the last year through consistency alone.
I recently went to a clinic to ask about BPC peptides for some lingering shoulder and knee pain. While I was there, they ran bloodwork, and my testosterone came back clinically low.

The provider told me: “Not to make you feel bad, but your testosterone is concerningly low for your age. I have guys in their 60s with double yours.”

Ouch. She was attractive too 😭💀

What’s confusing is that from the outside, I don’t fit the picture I had in my head of someone with low testosterone. I’m in good shape, active, disciplined, and generally healthy. But looking back, some things make more sense now.

I’ve always felt like I was missing a little bit of drive or “spunk.” Not motivation—I have plenty of discipline—but a certain confidence and energy that seems to come naturally to other people. I’ve also struggled with sleep for years. I’ve had periods of feeling down, though I wouldn’t say I’ve ever been clinically depressed.

The clinic recommended TRT.

I’ve never been someone who wanted to mess with hormones, but now I’m seriously considering it because I genuinely want to feel better. Part of me thinks: if I’ve been able to build a physique and lifestyle I’m proud of with testosterone this low, what would I feel like if my hormones were actually in a healthy range?

At the same time, I’m nervous…
Is TRT really a lifelong commitment?
How concerned should I be about fertility at 28? I’m not anywhere near having kids yet, but I want them
Did any of you notice major personality changes?
Is the confidence/energy improvement as noticeable as people claim?
Would you explore other options before TRT?

I feel a weird mix of disappointment, relief, fear, and even excitement. Low testosterone was probably the last thing I expected from my bloodwork.

Should I feel as shameful as I do? 🤦🏿‍♂️

There’s also the fact that my prolactin is weirdly high, but we’re gonna do another blood test for that.

I’d appreciate hearing from people who were in a similar situation, especially those who started TRT in their 20s or early 30s.

TL;DR: 28 years old, healthy lifestyle, clinically low testosterone, and TRT was recommended. Trying to figure out how to feel about it and whether it’s the right move.

Testosterone??? 🤦🏿‍♂️
