Some of the comments under my previous post about dating got me thinking about this. Theoretically dating a Redditor would probably be ideal for someone like me. I wouldn’t have to hide anything. My online activity wouldn’t be some shocking revelation six months into a relationship. He’d already know who I am and what I do… But there are a few things that genuinely scare me. The biggest one is that I’d worry about dating someone who spends a lot of time looking at NSFW profiles and content. I’d worry that even in a relationship, he’d still spend hours looking at other women. I’d worry about being constantly compared to them. I think that would be very difficult for me emotionally.

I’d also be afraid of becoming a trophy girlfriend. Not someone who is genuinely loved and valued as a person, but someone who is exciting because of what I post online or because other men find me attractive.

Then; a possibility of porn addition. One of my friends dated a man who was heavily addicted to porn. He could get aroused while watching porn, but during actual sex he often couldn’t maintain an erection. 🥀 He rarely initiated intimacy, instead he’d disappear into the bathroom with his phone. This relationship absolutely destroyed her self-esteem and she’s still in therapy. A huge part of what she’s working through is the feeling that she wasn’t attractive enough, desirable enough or somehow less than a screen full of strangers.

I know people on Reddit are very different. I don’t think there is one specific "Redditor type". Everyone is here for different reasons, looking for different things, and using this place in their own way. Still, those would probably be my main fears. I think it would be hard for me to fully trust that someone who found me through this side of Reddit sees me as a whole person, not just as content, a fantasy, or a trophy.

How about you, though? Could you date someone who posts NSFW content online? And if you were me, would you see dating a Redditor as an advantage or a red flag? + why are you here?
