Cash on hand, illegal workers, and unsafe premises. Nine restaurants in Rome suspended
Undeclared workers and safety concerns. This is the outcome of inspections conducted in Rome by the local labor inspectorate. The investigation focused particularly on the restaurant sector, particularly in the Trieste neighborhood and the Piazza del Popolo area. Nine business suspension orders were issued: five for undeclared work and four for health and safety violations.

More specifically, 14 companies were scrutinized and 61 positions were inspected. Of these, nine—in four different restaurants—were found to have no employment contract. Specifically, in the first business, 5 out of 6 workers were unemployed, in the second 2 out of 11, in the third 1 out of 3, and in the fourth, the only one present.
Payment not included in the paycheck
But it doesn't end there. In another of the inspected businesses, 26 workers were found formally employed by seven different companies operating in the same location, linked by contracts and network agreements. In another business, 11 workers were formally employed on part-time contracts of 8 or 10 hours per week, despite actually working 40 hours per week. Over half of their wages were paid in cash and not on their paychecks, with no additional pay for holiday work.
