Just got this back - PCGS UNC Details - cleaned. Really would feel much better if this came back as questionable color.

Not a key date and not looking to make money on this just a real head scratcher. It’s frustrating not understanding the criteria

I’ve looked at the coin for quite sometime and I just can’t see it - compared to dozens of straight graded Morgan’s I have this one looks just about the least cleaned of them all. Maybe there’s something there, but if there is, nobody seems to be able to point to it. The other possibility is maybe I’m just a moron lol.

And before the inevitable “you need the coin in hand” comments…

I’m not really buying that as an explanation.

I understand photos don’t tell the entire story. But these are PCGS TrueViews. This is about as good as coin photography gets. If the best images possible don’t show any issue, and experienced collectors can’t see the issue coin in hand, then at some point we should probably question what we’re doing here.

Is the line between a straight grade and a Cleaned details grade really that abstract and nuanced?

Because if it is, then we’re basically asking collectors to accept a potentially drastic value shift because of a label based on something that can’t be readily seen, photographed, or explained.

Is there anything here that looks cleaned?

PCGS Details -Cleaned???!!
