Boss Hurriedly Accused me of Fraud and regretted it.
A long time ago when I was 20 I managed to get my dream job as a Sales Representative visiting customers. My boss Kevin (not his real name) however, turned it into a nightmare by bullying, shouting, accusing at every small thing you can imagine.
Then one day, as I am phoning through my customers orders for the day, he jumps on the line to accuse me of fraud. Despite me asking for clarification, he just says,”You know what you’ve done. Be in my office tomorrow morning 9 am sharp for a disciplinary meeting with the MD.”
Stunned, I put down the phone to regroup in my car. As I began to process what had happened, it occurred to me that:
1: I have not profited from any activity relating to work or private matters except my pay.
2: He has a habit of shooting first and asking questions later
With this in mind, I called him back to repeat his allegations. This he did without hesitation.
I said:“ If that’s the case, you are accusing me of a criminal offence and I will have an independent witness attend the meeting with me.”
He asked who I was going to bring and I said:”The Police.”
“You haven’t!!!” He spluttered.
I hung up.
I had not contacted the police because I didn’t want to waste their time.
The next morning I turn up at 9 am and he says looking around dramatically :“Where’s the Police?”
I said, looking around too;”Where’s the MD?”
He mumbled something about finding my mistake in a couple of orders I had taken and decided it was just an error on my part.
No apology.
I left his office smiling and decided to find another job asap.
Knob.
For the record, my mistake was selling a new version of a product at the old price, and on the same order, selling the old version of a product at the new price. Same quantities. I’d got the sales price mixed up. No fraud involved only drama.
If you are a boss, don’t be a Kevin.
