Cat got a minor operation other cat doesn't like the donut

My cat got an operation today in his toe today, his nail split and bacteria got in so it became an infection and the removed the nail today and the swelling from the infection. He just got home and since its an open wound he's not allowed to lick it.

I monitored him for a few minutes but he already started licking his toe, when I tried to cone we got from the vet on he already hated it so we're trying the donut first. I'm monitoring him to make sure he can't reach his toe with the donut on but one of our cats when she saw him immediately started growling and all her hairs stood up straight so she hates it.

I'm looking for some advice on the best course of action especially for tonight. Maybe it's a better idea to keep them apart? I'll see how it goes the rest of the day and then decide any input and tips are welcome :)
