Rejected after a written assessment - how to handle rejection when it's me, not them and learn from high-stress interview processes?
Hi everyone,
I've been unemployed for 6 months and was in a recruitment process for the closest thing to a dream job at this time in my career search. I'm normally a great writer and the final test was a written assessment, which I thought went well. They rejected me today and I was crushed, but they did not provide feedback.
I wanted to see what I messed up so I passed the assessment instructions and my output through AI, and it is definitely something I messed up. Typos, didn't include all the info required, repeated sections. It was a really intense assessment, with only 45 minutes to do everything they asked, and I ended up not doing the most basic thing, which is proofread (for some reason, my spellcheck wasn't working on my computer).
I am so mad at myself as I totally screwed up on a basic thing. I'm embarrassed that this is how the company will now see me, as someone who can't write properly. Everything was perfect: the location, the tasks, the industry area.
How am I supposed to move past this and learn to perform in high-pressure interview assessments? They gave me so little time, so much to do, so I would not have been able to do everything, so I'm wondering what should be my approach and prioritisation in future assessments.
