Why do people defend burqa and say it's women choice?

Isn't this oppressive and patriarchal. As much as I know it's very oppressive or maybe not? What are your thoughts on this? Like I rarely see anyone opposing the burqa properly and even then people defend that in the comments, shouldn't it be opposed just like parda or ghoonghat? Also (respectfully), what are muslim men's thoughts on this? I would be glad to know something more or new
