A student tries on shoes and her €13,000 purse is stolen. A Rolex and gold rings are found inside

Robbery

A sudden move. A handbag (estimated at €13,000) was stolen from a student, containing a Rolex watch and jewelry. The raid took place in the heart of Rome, on Via del Corso, inside a clothing store.

The robbery

The girl, according to reports, was trying on shoes. A moment of distraction provided assistance to two homeless Bulgarians, aged 27 and 37, who snatched the bag containing, in addition to the valuable watch, two gold rings, a smartphone, and a credit card. The thieves were caught by Carabinieri officers from the Rome San Lorenzo in Lucina station, who were conducting an anti-pickpocketing operation in the area. The entire haul was recovered and returned to its rightful owner. The two women, however, were arrested.

Hand-to-Hand Crime in Central Rome

But this wasn't the only intervention against hand-to-hand crime lurking in key areas of the city's historic center. Officers from the Rome San Lorenzo in Lucina station—in this case off-duty—arrested a Romanian man and woman, aged 27 and 20 respectively, in Vicolo del Bottino. They had stolen the wallet from the backpack of a 22-year-old foreign tourist. The couple was placed under house arrest.
