Hey everyone,

I've been sketching out a small side project and want to pressure-test it before I sink more time into it.

The observation: a lot of us now read everything through captions TikTok, Reels, Shorts, one word flashing at a time, perfectly paced to how fast we can process it. Nobody had to learn that skill, it got trained into us by short-form video. And a lot of people I know (myself included) feel like that same habit wrecked their ability to sit down and read an actual book.

So the idea: take that exact reading rhythm. It's actually an old technique called RSVP (rapid serial visual presentation), the same thing speed-reading apps used back in the day and point it at real books instead. One word at a time, big, centered, fast. You can slow it down, speed it up, or flip back to a normal page view whenever you want.

A couple of things I'm trying to do differently from the speed-reading apps that already exist:

* It's built like a reading app, not a productivity tool, it has its own little library/shelf, not just a text box you paste into.
* It comes with a stack of free public-domain classics built in, so you can start reading in two taps instead of hunting for your own files first. You can still import your own PDFs too.
* Everything is local, no account needed to use it, no cloud syncing of your files, nothing leaves your device.

This is still a spec / early prototype, not a finished product, I'd rather find out now if this is a "neat idea, would never actually use it" thing before I build further.

**Genuinely want to know:**

1. Would you actually use something like this, or is it more of a novelty you'd open twice and forget about?
2. What's a fair price for this free, one-time purchase, subscription, or freemium (free with a paid tier for something)? I was thinking freemium, and for small price for premium features like changing background color, speed, small ticks, maybe insights for 5$/month.
3. Do you trust RSVP reading for actually understanding/retaining a book, or only for skimming articles and stuff you don't care that much about?
4. What would make this a "delete in a week" app vs. something you keep coming back to?
5. Anyone already using something like this (Spreeder, SwiftRead, etc.)? What do you like/hate about it?

Not trying to sell anything here, there's nothing to buy yet, just trying to figure out if this is worth finishing. Brutally honest feedback (including "this is a dumb idea") is exactly what I'm looking for.

Validating an idea before I build more of it: a speed-reading app for people whose attention span got wrecked by short-form video.
