Know your ordinances.
So I comment here quite frequently and many of you have heard my story of the time I sued my neighbors over their barking dogs.
I have since moved and now I’m on a corner lot so my backyard is shaped like a slice of pie with the people on either side both having 2 mutts each. Every time I tried to just sit on my deck and have coffee or just enjoy the weather 2 of the dogs (1 on either side) would go nuts.
I talked to each neighbor and got the usual “he’s a rescue, she’s deaf, what do you expect me to do” bs that we’ve all heard a thousand times. Talking did nothing with these people (as usual) but you know what did work, printing up the city code on noise violations!
I hand delivered a copy to each neighbor and politely said “I’m sorry but if you don’t do something about the barking I’m going to escalate”. That was several months ago and the change has been stunning!
Right now as I type I’m enjoying coffee on my deck, I can hear the birds and squirrels and although the dogs still bark from time to time, the people are all quick to shut it down. Now don’t get me wrong my relationship with them is shot so it’s not all rainbows and butterflies but it’s damn nice to not be assaulted with noise every day.
TLDR- look up your city and county noise ordinances and give a copy to your neighbor, it has worked wonders for me.
Good luck!
