Questions about the bachelor of medical radiation.
Hi, I’m currently a Year 12 student who is hoping to study the Bachelor of Medical Radiation (Medical Imaging) at RMIT. I’m specifically interested in pursuing sonography in the future. I’m also a niqabi, meaning I wear the face veil, and I have a few questions that I would really appreciate some help with.
General Questions
I know the ATAR for Medical Imaging is around 98, and I was wondering whether there is much difference to the selection rank with SEAS. I understand it may not make a huge difference, but if I received an ATAR somewhere between 92–95, would that potentially be enough to receive an offer?
I’m also hoping to become a sonographer after completing this course. Is the Bachelor of Medical Radiation (Medical Imaging) a good pathway into sonography? After graduating, would I already be qualified as a sonographer, or would I need to complete further postgraduate study or training?
Questions About the Study Load
I was also wondering about the flexibility of the timetable.
>Are most classes scheduled in the morning, or are there often late afternoon or evening classes?
>How many days per week do students usually attend campus?
>I understand the course is primarily in person, but are any of the non-practical classes available online?
Clinical Placements
Clinical placements are something I’m particularly concerned about.
>Do students have any choice or preference regarding placement locations?
>Would it be possible to request a placement at a women’s hospital or a children’s hospital?
>Do placements occur every year of the course, or are they mainly in the second and third years?
>Is there any flexibility around avoiding rural placements or night shifts, or are those compulsory components that students must complete?
Practical Classes and Face Veiling
Finally (and I’m so sorry for all the questions!), I was wondering about practical classes and clinical placements in relation to wearing the niqab.
Would face veiling generally be permitted, or would it be considered a hygiene or safety issue? I’d also love to know what the practical classes and labs are typically like. If there are any current or former students who wear the hijab or niqab, I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and whether you felt accommodated throughout the course.
Thank you so soo much to anyone who has taken the time to read this. I truly appreciate any advice or insight you can share. Medical imaging and sonography are my dream career path, and I’m incredibly passionate about pursuing them. I sincerely hope that being a niqabi won’t prevent me from achieving that goal. Thank you again!
