My Friend helped me with Oil change

Okay so my friend helped me with a oil change because it was my first time.

So when we fitted the new Oil filter he applied Castrol wheel bearing grease on the rubber o ring and said it helps it come off easier the next time we change it.

My question is, I thought you should put a bit of the engine oil in the o ring, so is it safe to leave on that grease or what should I do, it was a very thin layer though ?

Please any opinions is appreciated.
