Need Advice

I joined this community because my wife has Keratoconus. She is on disability and doesn't drive. Super smart women proud of who she is and every ounce of independence she holds around the house. Support wise she has her mother, one good friend (who is a busy body) and myself. So mainly just me and her mother.

Recently we had a conversation about me enlisting in the US Army active duty. She was all for it because she knows I wanted to serve since I was in high school but life just kept getting in the way( now age 32). Kids and family mainly. She went to school for welding then began to lose her vision so she knows what it's like to have something slip away. She told me to go for it. With active duty I can get benefits and everything she needs in terms of where we are stationed.

Now it seems shes grown uncomfortable with being away from her mother and getting around in unfamiliar environments. Which is understandable she is not wrong but she has talked me down to the National Guard instead of being a full time soldier. This has halfway crushed me honestly because it would have given us so much benefits in 20 years. With the Guard that time multiplies.

My big request is I'm looking for advice from someone who is in her would-be position.

Do you have a Spouse that is currently in the service?

I feel that the Guard would be better for us but in terms of benefits I'm serving longer and active duty was my best bet on getting her out of our current living area. My chance to take her and the kids around the world or at least across the country.
