Tapering PPI

Question

I was diagnosed with mild gastritis and a 2cm hiatial hernia. My symptoms mostly align with gastritis and I rarely experience acid reflux symptoms. I’ve been on 40mg of omeprazole daily for about 6 months. My doctor told me I could try to taper off to see how I do and that I’d be eligible for a TIF procedure of I wanted for the hernia. I don’t want to be on PPI forever and I’d rather not have even a non invasive procedure if I can avoid it.

I’m having a gnawing discomfort in my stomach and some bloating. I have DGL and Zinc L-Carnosine supplements. I can’t tell if those help or not.

I have seen here some warnings on rebound symptoms coming off of long term PPI use. Anyone able to share their symptoms and how long the rebound effects took to go away?

I hate that it’s so hard to tell what symptom is from what: rebound, gastritis returning, or hernia problems?
