To file for child support or not

California

My daughter is almost a year now. I suffered mental, emotional and physical abuse from her father. There are pew pews involved and at one point him barricading himself with one in a fit of drunkenness. He drank very often. I have been gone from him since early 2026. Current DVRO with supervised visits. He is not paying anything at all. No child support. My question is should I file for it. He is all about his money however that’s not my priority. Her safety is. I’ve been told that proving he’s a crap father and telling the truth about his abuse and pew pew violations is key but also proving he has not been able to afford to take care of her would be key as well. Of course he is going for 50/50 but I am requesting full legal/physical custody due to violent situations she was in. Will a child support case help in this instance or just leave it alone and just tell the courts he hasn’t reached out, hasn’t paid for anything for her?
