Recommendations for a beach resort

Samui/Tao/Phangan

Currently looking at heading to Thailand July 2027.

What I'm after:

- Swimmable beach with a few beach bars, lively but not overrun. Beach beds a bonus.

- Area with plenty of restaurants within walkable distance (at least 10-12)

- Nice hotels, apts or villas (not luxury, just clean, comfortable and with a pool) close to the beach (10 min walk max)

What I don't want:

- Minimal or no go-go/beer/girlie bars. (Going as a family with teenagers).

I've been to Thailand many times in the past and most recently 10 years ago so am aware of many places but would like to hear from others of places I could be missing. And things will have moved on since I visited.

Samui is obviously high on the list and I've been to Mae Nam which I enjoyed but maybe a little too quiet now with older kids. Fisherman's village looks good but not sure how the beach is there. Suitable for swimming? What about Lamai? I went there for a few hours and the beach looked great, just wasn't sure what the evenings might be like. Too many bars that aren't family friendly?

What about Pha Ngan or Koh Chang? Anywhere on these islands that suits my criteria there? I've researched both islands and not sure there's enough for the kids. A friend goes to Jontiem, near Pattaya, with his daughter, but I'm not sure about the beach or the nightlife.

Flying into Bangkok but happy to take an internal flight and a short boat trip. Is the west coast completely out at that time of year due to the rainy season?

Be great to hear of new places or to confirm anywhere I've already mentioned.

Thanks for any input.
