Above-ground Skimmer

I have an above ground Intex pool, and I bought a skimmer to install into it, but it doesn't say how to plumb it in to the rest of the system. Does it replace a pump inlet? Does it replace both? Does it attach to the pump at all? If so, then why would it have its own return?
