Lack of wild birds..

I've worked with a lot of pen raised birds, sometimes 100k+ at a time. But a lot of our uplands lack in wild population. Is the gundog community getting really tied to game farms/CSAs? The place I work on right now it having a better year for wild bobwhite and, agreeably the owner doesn't let anyone hunt them. I got to thinking about no shoot pointer running as a means of surveying wild coveys.. is that a thing anyone would be interested in pursuing as a way of working dogs and working to preserve wild birds? At this point in my life, I've pen raised enough I'd just as soon eat those than shoot wild birds. Is the shooting over your dog in the field a deal breaking factor??
