Scooter plus BART from Emeryville to FiDi: is this actually feasible and safe, or am I overthinking it?

Moving to the Shellmound area soon and starting a job near Salesforce Tower, about four days a week in office. Before I buy a folding e-scooter, I want to pressure test the commute.

The idea: scooter from the apartment to West Oakland BART, fold it, ride one stop across the tube to Embarcadero, walk to the office. I know the free Emery Go-Round is the alternative, so I am trying to figure out if the scooter is worth it.

Local takes I would value:

1.	Is the Shellmound to West Oakland stretch decent to ride, or is MacArthur or Ashby the saner target?  
2.	Honestly, how is West Oakland after dark? Daytime I am fine, it is the 7 to 9 pm returns on a scooter with my phone out that worry me.  
3.	Anyone actually do a version of this? What would you change?
